We started the evening with a few cocktails and a beautiful try of cheese, fruit and crackers while we all chatted and got got up on life events. The it was on to the movie and spa portion.

We sat down to watch Mirror Mirror while giving our tootsies some well deserved TLC.  If only I could enjoy a pedi foot massage while watching a movie every night! Hey, a girl can dream right?

What’s Mirror Mirror you ask? Mirror Mirror is a fresh and funny retelling of the classic Snow White legend. One of the world’s most beloved fairy tales takes a hilarious turn in this fresh, exciting film starring Oscar® Winner Julia Roberts.  After she spends all her money, an evil enchantress queen (Roberts) schemes to marry a handsome, wealthy prince (The Social Network’s Armie Hammer). There’s just one problem – he’s in love with a beautiful princess, Snow White (Lily Collins, The Blind Side). So, the sinister queen banishes Snow White from her own kingdom! Now, joined by seven rebellious dwarves, Snow White launches an epic battle of good vs. snarky in this funny, magical movie that the whole family will love.

To say we had a great time would be an understatement! Everyone enjoyed the movie and couldn’t wait for it to come out so they could share this new fairytale with their families. I love that it is a movie that we can watch as a family!

Looking for some quick and easy beauty tips you can try at home?

**For a quick and easy way to brighten your smile, mash a few strawberries in a bowl and add ½ teaspoon of baking soda. Coat teeth with the mix and leave for five minutes. The malic acid acts as an astringent and removes stains. Be wise not too use too often (an evil queen trait) because regular use could damage your tooth enamel. Brush again with normal toothpaste to remove the mix. Happy smiles!

**Green tea contains antioxidants and placing a damp green tea under each eye can sooth tired eyes and reduce bags and dark circles. Adding cucumber slices or grated potatoes over closed eyes will also reduce puffy-looking skin. Leave it on for about 10 minutes and poof, magically, clear and whiter eyes!

Now get on out there, grab some girlfriends and a copy of Mirror Mirror. I can’t think of a better girls’ night out!

** I received a copy of this movie and other products as compensation for this post, though all the fun, opinions and spa happiness was entirely my own.

One Sentence Saturday – Change

Sometimes, the first step towards change is the hardest step to take.

Join in the One Sentence Saturday fun with Robin!

Traveling down the dark and unfamiliar road. The moon provides intermittent patches of light between the ominous billowing clouds. My head is spinning and my feet can’t find the ground. Dredging memories from my youth, trying to feverishly re-knit the past. Trying to find meaning amidst the clouds of uncertainty.

Your mind knows where to exit yet it refuses to go – not ready. Wishing there was a different route, a different choice. But alas, it is not your choice, not your decision to make. The decision rest in His hands. Even though you argue and disagree, it is His will.

So I sit, knowing that someday the tables will spin and it will be me at the head of the table. I will have to sift through the fog that slowly rolls in, filling all my void with uncertainty. I will be left, searching for the ever true light…..And I know, you will be there, right next to me.

keepin’ it real yo

Blissdom 2011 by Mishelle Lane Photography

by Mishelle Lane Photography

I just got back from Blissdom and while everyone is doing recap posts, I seem to be in a different place. While I am not going to lie – Blissdom was filled with squeals, laughter, crying and loving on peeps so hard it hurt. I solidified my online stalking love of friends and added new ones to the list. And while I can go on and one about how much I love her, and her and, oh, don’t forget my new crush her – I left this year with a lot more.

I have been lacking transparency for a long time. I have become the queen of writing on the surface. I tried to challenge myself with the 30 Days of Honesty – but then it got too hard, too real. So I stopped. The last honest post I wrote got so much backlash I shied away from sharing. I shied away from being me.

What struck me over and over again these past few days is that I need to be me. THAT is why I started writing in the first place, to make my voice heard. And while my real life friends love me for who I am – I often don’t see the beauty they see. You guys do see beauty right?? *ahem* That’s what I thought.

Then out of nowhere, a friend snaps this picture. A brief moment, not planned, totally random. Is this what people see? Because this is not what I see when I look at my reflection. I focus on the negative, what could be better, what needs fixed, lifted, botoxed, what isn’t pretty enough, what isn’t perfect to me.

I will take this opportunity to throw Hubby under the bus. I sent him this picture and crazed text messages soon followed. My favorite was, “This is how I see you everyday.” I began to cry. He confirmed that yes, I am the beautiful, smart, honest and funny person in this picture. I obviously also have some humility issues but hey, at least I am willing to admit them. At least for now. Check in with me in a few weeks. And if I am back to my plain old surfacey self… feel free to smack me up side the head. I’ll be sure to thank you for it.

the flip side: i am not the kat you are looking for

Hey Tuesday! Yeah, I’m looking at you. Why do you have to feel like such a Monday today. I mean, really, isn’t one Monday a week enough??

Well, one good thing about Tuesday is The Flip Side. Yep, Linney and I like to give everyone the chance to reflect on a different camera view, a different angle, a different perspective. So grab those cameras, flip them around and get flipping!
darth vader, flip side

While in New Hampshire visiting my high school bestie, I got to partake in some hard core Star Wars play. I mean really, who doesn’t want to dress up like Dart Vader?? Well, I kept trying to convince the little Jedi warrior that I was not the Vader he was looking for. He didn’t fall for it. Luckily I am quite up on my Light Saber skills!

What did you catch yourself doing this week? Leave a comment, link up and get flipping!

Thursday Ten – Shark Week

This is my last Thursday home before going back to work next week. I am not happy about it. I, like my friend Sarah, would like to move to Australia. Where there are sharks. And cute koalas. And I can be snarky. But just to the sharks cause like I said, koalas are cute and can always make me smile. Not like sharks. But I digress….

1. If you have read up on the Thursday Ten cult (ok, there are just three of us but still), you would also see that we are all PMSing (the joys of being friends) and it has not been pretty. At all. So just throw some chocolate our way and run. It’s safer that way.

2. Which leads me to my next issue. What on earth am I supposed to snarf down to appease my inner anger as a vegan?? Chocolate – has dairy and sugar. Ice cream – dairy, sugar and I am lactose intolerant. Grapes – well now, that is just mean. What happiness can I possibly derive from grapes?! What?? Sour fermented grapes! Now you are talking!!

3.The boys created a new game today. There is no official name, they just sit there punching each other in their privates till one of them cries. Uh, yeah, I know. Why do boys think up these crazy things? Can’t they use their minds for the greater good?! Well, now they are. While they are cleaning their toyroom. Together. In silence.

4. Since the new school year is quickly approaching, the boys and I have been ‘doctoring’ all week. Yep, this week we hit the dentist, the pediatrician and the opthamologist. Throw in a haircut for me tomorrow and we are all ready to go back to school. Physically maybe, mentally – totally questionable.

5. Speaking of getting ready for school – Monkey boy starts Kindergarten this year. He is mostly somewhat ready. One way I have been trying to get him even more ready is with my Grasshopper Prep Kit. I really like it and have been pleased with his progress. I wonder is she makes a kit for listening??

6. This past weekend the family and I took our annual camping trip. We tried somewhere new and loved it. Except for the overly ferocious mosquitoes that had us running to Wally World looking for solace. Thankfully Hubby came out wielding enough Deet to send every mosquitoes in the country running. Except for the ones on our camp site who still felt the need to try and get as close to sucking our blood as they could. The were even dive bombing into our car windows. Guess those were some hungry (or PMSing) mommas!

7. And sine we went camping out of state I also got to enjoy the northern states lovely lack of driving skills. Dear Wisconsin drivers – please don’t sit in the left lane. It makes me cranky. Especially when you are going 10 miles BELOW the speed limit. There are three lanes, please use them.

8. Still trying to get through The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. I should preface that by saying it is not that I don’t like it, I just haven’t had time to read.

9. AND speaking of tattoos – Hubby is getting his today. Right now in fact. Hope he is surviving. He was given the time frame of 4.5 – 5 hours. That’s a lot of ink time!

10. Now off to finish my to-do list to get the boys and I ready for school. Anyone out there know how to change the water filter in your fridge?? Yikes! It has been red for weeks which is why I have been drinking water from the tap. Maybe Hubby will do it when he gets home from getting his tat. Maybe.

Don’t forget to check out the other Thursday Ten chicks, Sarah and Malia. By the way, they both like chocolate too!
