Confidence In Truth

I often search within myself to find what I know is true. Sometimes it can be the most difficult and challenging task. For often, there lurking in the shadows of my soul, is an evil monster. While he may be small in size, he is able to bring the strongest of men crashing to their knees with just a fleeting glance. He is powerful enough to make you walk away from your wants and dreams, without a second glimpse or thought. What is this monster you query? The demon within me is doubt, and to conquer him, I must BELIEVE.

Stolen

100 word challengeHis pulse quickened as he stepped out into the street. It was easy to get lost in the crowds of New York, but he worried the bundle he was carrying would make him easy to spot. He kept his head down as he headed towards Madison Avenue where her car would be waiting. Only a few more blocks he thought as he picked up his pace.

Suddenly a large man clipped his shoulder, causing him to stumble sideways. His worst fear came true. As he fell to his knees the blanket shifted, exposing the newborn babe that was wrapped within.

Painful Solace

quietIt was the time of night she dreaded the most, for it was the time she felt most vulnerable. Her eyes were heavy with sleep but her body was too anxious to relax. She longed for the warmth and comfort of her bed. While the alley was quiet and off the beaten path, it was almost too quiet. If something were to happen to her no one would know. She wondered if they were still searching for her or if her parents we too mad to care. So many times she wanted to pick up the phone and say, “I’m sorry….”

The Challenge That Lies Ahead

I round the final bend of the trail and see the challenge that lies ahead. Just past the large oak tree, the trail begins to make a steep incline. A quarter mile of pure torture. It is my nemesis and today I will emerge victorious. I laugh at its feeble attempts to intimidate me. Today – I am in control.

Sweat beads along my brow as I accept the invitation to battle. Each step is a test of will, I will not succumb. With the crest in sight I channel every last ounce. I emerge at the top, content and satisfied.

A Dangerous Dance

a dangerous danceMy eyes blurred as I rammed my key into the ignition. “How….. How did this happen? How many times have I told him? Damn! Why doesn’t he listen!?

I turned down the next street, not paying attention to anything but the turmoil in my head. Thoughts and emotions were intertwined, spinning in a dangerous dance.

I was shocked out of my trance by incessant blaring horns. Oblivious, I had driven right through the intersection. How I wasn’t hit was a miracle. I tried to occupy my mind with the pertinent task at hand, freeing it of its webs of burden.

Restraint

straight jacketI try to curl up into the only position that will offer me comfort – trying desperately to hide within myself. It takes everything in me to suppress the rage that is festering down in my bowels. I saw her. I saw how she looked at me. But no one would believe me, so they put me here. They said they just wanted to help – to stop the monsters inside – but I know better. I try to lash out, try to break free but these relentless confinements inhibited my ability to claw my way to freedom and escape their leering eyes.

Will’o'Wisp

whimsyAs I quietly read under the shade of my favorite oak tree, her intoxicating giggles caused me to pause. As I glanced up, my eyes captured perfection. There amongst the dandelions was my beautiful sprite. She seemed to float above the flowers as she spun on the tips of her toes. Her soft skirt swirled around while her golden curls danced in the sunlight.

Her laughter was contagious. What I wouldn’t give to be so young and full of whimsy. Embracing the moment, I jumped up and began to spin with her till all I could feel was pure exhilaration.

All Along the Watch Tower

tornado, calm before the storm As she walked home from school she noticed the wind shift ever so slightly. She looked ahead and noticed a green haze descending upon the horizon. She could hear the neighbor’s cattle becoming restless as her dog Sam began to bark.

It was only a matter of time before the storm hit. She felt chilled as the leaves swirled around her feet, an eerie prediction of what was to come.

As she got closer to home, she could see her mother waiting in the doorway. They quickly ran downstairs, not knowing what Mother Nature had in mind this time around.
