show me those pearly whites

Braces, I remember having them well. It was sixth grade and I had a mouth full of metal, expanders and rubber bands. At one point during my treatment I even had rubber bands that crisscrossed and made an ‘X’ across the front of my mouth. Those rubber bands made it almost impossible to talk, let alone the social ramifications as a girl in middle school.

As I looked back trying to find a picture from my metal-mouthed days, I realized every picture I had I was smiling with a closed mouth. Every. Single. One. Even though all my friends had braces, I was very self-conscious of mine. Finally, after two years of toothless smiles, I was left with a gorgeous smile I was willing to flash. Behold!  invisalignFlash forward a decade (or two) and I now have two boys of my own. Boys that are losing teeth. Boys with new adult teeth that are too big for their mouths. Boys with teeth that are coming in crooked. Boys that will need braces.

The dentist has already started laying the ground work. He already wants me to take the 10 year old to the orthodontist for an assessment. He wants to get that metal in my son’s mouth. But as a Mom, I don’t want him to be self-conscious. I don’t want my boys to be embarrassed of flashing their pearly whites. I want them to embrace their smiles. invisalign

Want a chance to give you child the lifetime of a great smile without the embarrassment of braces? Blissfully Domestic and Invisalign want to give you child a confident smile, all while straightening their teeth. The winner will receive one free Invisalign Teen treatment (valued at no more than $5500) and the gift of a confident new smile for one of their children.

Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C)Aaaaah, Christmas. There is nothing I like better than hunting for the perfect Christmas present. From the thrill of the hunt to the overwhelming joy of the find. But nothing tops the look on the gift recipient’s face when they receive that perfect gift.

I can easily claim giving my Grandma one of her best presents ever. Even though my Grandma is no longer with us, my family still jokes about how much my Grandma loved her Christmas gift. In fact, she eventually love this gift to death. Curious what present I gave that brought her such joy? I got my Grandme a voice recording picture frame. Yep, that’s it!

My 80+ year old Grandma was not computer savvy. She struggled with all the new up and coming technology and would never own a computer. My Grandma also loved her first great-grandson, Bear. Since we lived seven hours away, we did not get to spend as much time together as we would have liked. When I saw the frame, I knew it would be perfect. I took Bear to get his picture taken, slipped the glossy 8×10 into the frame and recorded Bear saying, “I love you Gigi!!” in the sweetest little voice you have ever heard.

When she opened her gift Christmas morning, she cried. Within a month she had pushed the button so many times my Mom had to mail it back to me so I could re-record Bear’s voice. I received it back again a few months later AND a few months after that. If I was smart I would have bought her several so all she had to do was switch the picture. They do always say hindsight is 20/20!

While we still joke about her love of that picture frame, I know deep down inside that gift meant the world to her. It gave my Grandma a piece of ‘that boy‘ she couldn’t hug and kiss everyday. It gave her a piece of ‘that boy‘ that had her eyes and dimples. It gave her a piece of ‘that boy‘ that, in her opinion, lived much too far away from his Gigi. To this day, I still remember her, and her smile when she saw that present. And I will always cherish that memory.

Battle of the Giants: Dinosaurs strike

battle of the giants dinosaurs attack, wii gameDo you have a child that loves dinosaurs? Heck, do you have a kid that even remotely likes dinosaurs? Then you need to check out Ubisoft’s Battle of Giants: Dinosaurs Attack for the Wii.

My boys, 10 and 5, like dinosaurs but are not hard core obsessed, so I was a little leery about their reaction to this new Wii game by Ubisoft. I was also a bit concerned that the game was rated E 10+. I decided to try it out with my 10 year old first. Wow – was I surprised! Dinosaurs Strike was very easy to learn to play, even for this under coordinated adult. The game jumped right into action and Bear and I were in full competitive mode within minutes.  Monkey heard all the ruckus and quickly wanted to join in and play. The game allows up to four players AND allows you to create your own customized dinosaurs – bonus!

Dinosaurs Attack is rated E 10+ for fantasy violence but I think that is a little extreme. I am very protective about what games my boys are allowed to play. All of our games are rated E for both the Wii and their hand held games. While the Dinosaurs do battle, the scenes are not violent and there is no blood shed or graphic violence. (imagine your child banging two dinosaur figures together) The dinosaurs do have sharp teeth but so do the plastic figurines you buy in the store. So while it is rated for older children, I do feel it is appropriate for children 5 years and up.

Curious as to what my boys and their friends thought of the game? Here are some of their reactions:

battle of giants, dinosaurs attack, ubisoft,

B: Mom, this game is SO addicting. Look at the cool dinosaur I created!

M: I made mine look really cool. It has green flames!!

D: This game is so fun, I don’t want to stop playing! (said when his Mom came to pick him up)

J: Can I bring one of these games home for MY brother??

So if you are looking for a fun and creative game for  your child this holiday season, and they love or even like dinosaurs, then Battle of the Giants: Dinosaurs Attack is for you!

lilith fair

The Lilith Fair Music Tour returned to the stage this summer after a ten year hiatus. Lilith Fair was originally founded by Sarah McLachlan in 1997 and was one of the highest grossing concert series in the world. Lilith Fair celebrates women’s music with a philanthropic edge.

The makers of STAYFREE® pads, CAREFREE® pantiliners and o.b.® tampons were proud sponsors of this years festivities. They even partnered with SELF to create a special edition mini-magazine for the music festival called Love Your Lilith. With over 100,000 copies distributed, many women got to enjoy exclusive interviews with many of the tour artists. Didn’t get one? Don’t worry! A special deluxe version of Love Your Lilith, including a 15 track CD, is available in Walmart stores nationwide. Lilith Fair also teamed up with Walmart to offer free music downloads every week starting in June from various 2010 Lilith Fair artists. Women even had the opportunity to listen to more free songs if they bought specially marked packages of STAYFREE®, CAREFREE® and o.b.® products at Walmart™. Redeeming the code got listeners three to five free music downloads from their favorite music artists, including Colbie Caillat, Corinne Bailey Rae and Sugarland.

Another way the makers of STAYFREE® pads, CAREFREE® pantiliners and o.b.® tampons made Lilith Fair special this year was by redecorating the bathrooms. The Luxury Lilipad Ladies Rooms were decorated with fresh flowers, scented candles as well as free products. They even provided scented refrigerated cloths to help concert goers cool off and freshen up.

sex and the city 2 dvd released

It’s the movie release EVERYONE is talking about – Sex and the City 2. The girls are back and they are in the heat of Dubai. This past Tuesday marked the release of the Sex and the City 2 – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack. The album features new songs from Jennifer Hudson, Leona Lewis, CeeLo and Dido. Can you believe Liza Minnelli even covers Beyonce’s chart topping “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on it)”?
In all honesty, I am not extremely impressed with the overall album. Some of the songs, such as Michael McGregor’s “Euphrates Dream” and Erykah Bandu’s “Window Seat” lost my interest easily. Sarah Jessica Parker’s song is painful on the ears. Then there are the random opera song from Michael Mahany which don’t seem to fit among the other songs on the soundtrack. Alicia Keys on the other hand, nails her version of Blondie’s “Raptureand Cyndi Lauper’s “True Colorsstill brings tears to my eyes.
Want to check it out for yourself? I am offering one of my fabulous readers the chance to win their very own copy of the Sex and the City 2 – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack. All you have to do is leave a comment with your email address and you are automatically entered. Easy! Want an extrat entry? Tweet about it and include @sassyirishlasie. Sarah Jessica Parker is even particpating and giving one fan the call of a life time. You can get a message from SJP on the day the movie opens or be the lucky winner of a personal phone call!! Good Luck!
This giveaway is for US residents only. I did receive a complimentary copy of the album for review but was not compensated in any other way.
