Éirinn go Brách

Wishing all my friends many happy Irish blessings this St. Patrick’s Day! May you have all the happiness and luck that life can hold. And at the end of your rainbows, may you find a pot of gold.

Now pass me a pint and let’s celebrate with my ALL TIME favorite band – Enter the Haggis.

Welcome to the flip side

The uber savvy Linda, formally known as Short Pump Preppy, and I have a fun weekly photo challenge for you.

Do you take photos of yourself?

Then you are backwards, right?

You are seeing life on the flipside.

Mirror shots

Reflections in glass

Shadows of you

You might just be feeling backwards some days and now, you are….

Each week we want to see your other side. The idea is easy, just snap a photo of you. It can be a reflection, a shadow or self portrait. There’s lots of room for creativity. Then each week link up the  photos you have posted on your blog or flickr.

A different perspective on life.

Life on The Flip Side.

Grab our button…link in your post.

Tuesday’s we will have a linky up for you to link to.

We can’t wait to see the other side of you!

She’s Crafty and She’s Just My Type

This Lassie was quite the little crafter the past few days. While I would love to take all the credit for these uber fabulous ideas – I cannot. While I would love to say I even discovered the “it’s so easy to make your hate yourself for not making it” teacher gifts – I cannot. It was all my friend Danielle. But what I can say is I made BOTH of these crafts in one afternoon. One!

Super Easy Back To School Teacher Gift

As I said, my friend Danielle posted that she made these super cute and easy back-to-school teacher gifts for her kiddos teachers. What teacher doesn’t want a little love (and candy) the first day back to school? I sure would! So I decided to share the wealth and make these for the boys’ teachers. One quick visit to Michael’s and I was ready to go. You can get all the directions and variations of this project at The Gift Closet.

Wipe Off Weekly Menu Board

I have been pondering something like this for a LONG time.  I need to have a weekly meal plan. Without it my week nights quickly turn to random chaos in my kitchen. So, since the school year has begun and I am back at work, I decided it was time to take some action! Plus, now I don’t have to answer the daily question of “What’s for dinner?!?

This was another super easy craft once I got all the supplies. Now I will say that I opted for a bit nicer frame then the Dollar Store one suggested in this post, but it is hanging in my kitchen and I wanted it to look nice. My frame was $9.99 (on sale) from Michael’s and I used scrapbooking letter stickers (also from Michael’s). Total cost for this project was $15. I really like the fact that I can change the background paper as often as I want. Oh yeah, that is a total added bonus! Now I just need someone to come up with the meals. Anyone???

week one as a vegan

If you have been reading along you have probably read that I have been doing the Engine 2 Diet with Hubby. The first 28 days you are basically vegan. Well not basically – you ARE vegan. While the first two days went off without a hitch, day 3-5 hit me like a ton of bricks. I, like many others, am a stress eater. I am also a lover of cheese. So when I can’t have my staple of Wheat Thins and cheese, I tend to get a bit cranky. Don’t even get me started about how cranky Hubby has been without his candy and potato chips! Did I mention we can’t have processed sugar either? Yeah, we can’t. grumble grumble

The great thing about starting a new eating habit in the summer is the abundance of fresh fruits and vegetables available at the store. The bad thing about starting a new eating habit in the summer is all the weddings, graduation parties and picnics we have to attend. SO. Many. Temptations. Like my friend who had a Mexican themed graduation party with quesidillas, tacos, nachos and more. It killed me. So instead of partaking in my favorite food of all time, I heaped my plate with fruits and veggies. And smiled. Ok, I really didn’t smile but I tried. I tried really hard to smile while my son noshed away on cheesy quesidillas and stuffed chocolate frosted brownies in his mouth. The smile was huge let me tell you. HUGE!
Luckily I can still eat pasta. And bread. And I can still drink. Another good note – I have also reintroduced my self to a long lost favorite of mine – hummus. Seriously – hummus is nature’s equivalent of crack and I am the addict. Oh, and if the hummus has garlic in it… watch out! I may even lick the container. nom nom nom *ahem*
So now I begin week two of my vegan adventure. My friend insists everything will change after this week. My finger are crossed that it does!

top ten tuesday – anti-spring edition

Now, I realize I just wrote a post about how much I love spring and truth be told, I do. But spring also comes with a lot of things that I am not particularly fond of. While I realize I should just sit and relish all the good spring has to offer but today I am going to throw spring under the bus. Yep, today I am going to do my my Top Ten list about all the things that irk me about spring. Bring on the pessimism!

1. Weeds. Along with all the beautiful flowers of spring come their evil cousins – weeds.

2. Drastic temperature changes. Here in the Midwest we never know what to expect when spring rolls around. One days we are basking in the warm sunshine and the next day there is 4 inches of snow on the ground.

3. Allergies. Who out there loves the puffy eyes, groggy voice and runny nose associated with spring allergies? *crickets* Yeah… that’s what I thought.

4 Asian Beetles. They turn up everywhere!!!

5. Pasty white legs. Oh you know them! Those scary white legs that bare themselves to sunlight after 7 months of hibernating in pants. *shivers* Scary!

6. Feeling that you HAVE to do spring cleaning. Why is it that once it is finally warm you feel the need to stay inside and clean everything? Who’s idea was that??

7. Not knowing what to wear OR what to dress you kids in as they head off to school. See #2 for weather reference.

8. Muddy clothes. As if I don’t have enough laundry to do! Boy + spring = MUD.

9. . Spring projects that result in injuries. This weekend while fixing some of the boards on the deck Hubby…. well….. Hubby fell through the deck. It wasn’t pretty. He did let me photograph his leg though. Thanks Hubby!

10. Stays light later. How am I supposed to get these boys in bed if it is still light out?!

What irks you about spring? Don’t forget to head over to ohAmanda’s and check out what other people are listing this fine spring Tuesday.

ultimate blog party 2010

Ultimate Blog Party 2010
Hey there! I’m Kat, aka “The Lassie”. I am so glad you decided to stop by. This party hopping can be quite the excursion, so why don’t you sit down and stay for a pint or two. I can also pour some merlot or make a mean martini – Cheers!

A little about me – I am a funky and sassy girl with a lot of spunk. I tend to be devilish in nature (so they tell me) and an avid soccer player. Must haves include coffee, chocolate and sleep or I am a very crabby girl. If you can’t find me here I am probably over at Blissfully Domestic dishing away!

I am the mom of two amazingly spirited boys who are always getting into some sort of mischief. Oh, and I am also the wife to Hubby. Hubby is my partner in crime, best friend and leprechaun wrangler. He is a firey skater/surfer/ snowboarder who masquaredes as a glorified computer geek to pay the bills. His Irish eyes always have a glint of mischief!

As a thank you for stopping by I am hosting a little giveaway at my review site. You are definitely going to want to stop by and check it out. You could win over $250 worth of Bioelements skin care. Believe me – you won’t want to miss that chance!!

top ten tuesday – who doesn’t love bewbs?

BEWBS! You gotta love em’. Even better, you have to support them. And I don’t mean with some over the shoulder contraption either. As you all are well aware, I am participating in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer. I Am In It To End It. Even better, the lovely Sarah and I are hosting a Photo Scavenger Hunt to raise the funds for our walk. WHAT!? You haven’t joined our scavenger hunt yet?? What are you waiting for…. hmmmmm? Obviously you need ten reasons to support us and our walk.
1. Everyone knows someone with bewbs.
2. Bewbs provide comfort, nutrition and are aesthetic pleasing to the eyes (at least if you are a male).
3. Girls flash them to get beads during Mardi Gras and can even turn them into frogs. *ahem*

4. It is for an awesome and amazingly good cause.
5. Because Sarah, aka my partner in crime, make the bestest cookies EVER!!!
6. Vera Bradley. What?! Did I say that secret prize out loud??
7. It’s a chance to show your creative side and your mad photography skills.
8. Sadly, I bet everyone knows at least one person who has had or had been affected by breast cancer.
9. Pink. Who doesn’t love pink? Of course, real men wear pink!
10. Cause you could win some crazy cool prizes. Who doesn’t love prizes?
Now that I have you convinced that you NEED to join in the fantasmic photo hunt, click HERE to get all the details. Don’t be left out of all the fun!!

top ten tuesday – chicago style

I am not your typical city girl but I will readily admit that I LOVE Chicago. I have been to many cities throughout the states and other countries and Chicago is still one of my faves. Looking for at least ten reasons to come and visit this amazing city (and me)? Then read on!

1. The skyline. Nuf said
2. Shopping, shopping, shopping. The “Magnificent Mile” has something for everyone’s taste.
3. Sight seeing galore! You can easily keep yourself busy for days between the museums, aquarium, planetariums, archetecture… the list goes on and on.
4. Garrett’s Popcorn. A must if you come to Chicago! Oh, and you also have to order the Chicago Mix – YUM!!

5. Deep dish pizza. The oooey gooey goodness that is packed in a Chicago style deep dish pizza is beyond description.

6. Summer festivals. Since Chicagoans spend the winter bundled up and inside, they take advantage of the beautiful summer weather. You can find a festival for every occasions – and every weekend – during the summer months.
7. Lincoln Park Zoo – An amazing zoo that is free of charge and located right along the downtown lakefront. It is open year round and has a amazing display of lights during the Christmas season.
8. Navy Pier is a definite must see and fun for the whole family. By the way, you couldn’t pay me enough to get on that ferris wheel – no way, no how.
9. Lake Michigan – Whether it is running along the lake, kayaking, fishing or just laying on the beach, there is no way you could NOT enjoy Lake Michigan’s beauty.
10. Me! I live just a stone’s throw away and am always looking for an excuse to come down and spend time in the city that I love. I’ll even treat you to some pizza! *hint hint*

What is your favorite city? Don’t forget to head over to ohAmanda’s and check out what other people are listing this Tuesday.

top ten tuesday – spring

Aaaah March. The month when, for brief and fleeting moments, it is spring. At least it’s supposed to be anyway! So, being that I am in the spring mood and enjoying the afternoon sunlight filtering through my window, I thought I would write about my ten favorite springy things. Hold on to your Easter bonnets!
1. Waking up to the sounds of robins chirping
2. Packing away all the boots, hats and snow gear….. only to unpack them for the one last spring snow storm. …sigh
3. Running outside. I try to run on the treadmill but it kills my knees. Plus I sound like a huge stomping elephant. Guess I run too heavy footed, if there is such a thing.

4. Crocus and daffodils peaking up around every corner.
5. Breaking out my flip flops. I hate wearing shoes so once the weather is anywhere above 50 those flip flops come out!
6. The smell of spring rain. Aaaaahhh
7. Spring cleaning. Crazy, I know. But there is something rejuvenating about decluttering, recycling and throwing away unneeded stuff. Looking for some great tunes to clean to? Check out my spring cleaning mix.
8. Enjoying the sounds of bickering laughter from my back deck in the late afternoon sunshine.
9. Spring babies, who aren’t babies anymore.
10. Knowing that summer is that much closer!!
What are your favorite spring moments? Don’t forget to head over to ohAmanda’s and check out what other people are listing this Tuesday.

oh friday …. how i have missed you

What a week! There is nothing like a few warm spring days to renew your spirit. I know though, that this is just a short visit. Snow is right around the corner – like tomorrow! Grrrrr. My poor daffodils will never get a chance to bloom. *le sigh*
The wonderful Ann is hosting yet another pone of her Friday night virtual girl’s night at her place. She wants us to describe spring using one letter. My letter was R. Hmmmmmm. I would like to say recharge, rainbows, rebirth, rain and robins but with snow making an unwanted appearance tomorrow I think I will choose REALLY?!? What will your letter and words be? Head on over to Ann’s for some great party music and some yummy martinis. This lassie is off to a real girl’s night of her own!
Oh, before I forget! Looking for some new business cards? For free perhaps? Check out my review site for a chance to win!
