Progressive Movement

Out in the distance the sky smoldered as the sun attempted to drop below the horizon.  When Galiena entrusted the youngling with the secret maps, she never dreamt it would lead to this. She was trying to prevent a revolution, preclude the uprising of the under world.

Galiena wanted to change the outcome she saw in her dreams. Vivid pictures flashed through her mind, instantly chilling her to the core.

Ur insisted she didn’t mean to do it. That she never thought her callous action would change the fate of the world.  Sadly, she could not have been more wrong.

Delicate Balance

My senses are on overload as my heart pounds in my chest. I feel raw and exposed. Each breath is a burden, well thought out and exaggerated. Yet with each boundless breath I am still left feeling as though I am suffocating.

The anxiety is creeping further, filling every void. I swallow back tears – I must stay strong – terrified of being perceived as fragile or weak. The minutes click loud and purposeful through my brain like a metronome, pushing me closer to the edge.

Silently I take a step back, trying to focus amidst the chaos – this too shall pass.

The challenge of 100 words is to write a post, only using 100 words. Velvet Verbosity is back!! Her word for the week is “Fragile‘.

Starting Anew

Her heart quickened as she looked down at the small square of paper in her hand. Surely she must be imaging this. Molly stared blankly at the newscaster as he repeated the lucky numbers.

Molly methodically followed along as he read them off, refusing to breathe for fear she may miss one. She quickly thought back to the days she was with Jack and his thriftless ways. How he made absolutely sure she had nothing but what she could fit in her small suitcase the day she left him.

But this would change everything. With that realization, Molly finally exhaled.

Journey Of the Soul

She packed her bags and placed them by the door. Molly wondered how long it would take him to notice she was gone. She contemplated leaving him a note but what’s the point. He probably wouldn’t even bother to read it.

Molly glanced around the house one last time. She grabbed her bags, took a deep breath and shut the door to her old life behind her.

Where are we going?” a little voice inside her queried.

Hmmm, she pondered. The open road awaits and my soul longs to be set free. Today, I will let destiny set the course!

The Heart Grieves

She left me standing in the doorway. Her bitter and cruel words still ringing in my ears. My only true friend.

I pressed my back against the door, grasping for any bit of of support I could find. As I slid to the floor, the realization that my world was quickly crashing around me took me by such force that I was left gasping for air.

Fierce pain seared through my heart, leaving burnt remains in their wake. Her son who called me ‘Auntie’ for years, was actually the son of my husband. A house of cards built on lies.

Entrapment of the Soul

As the wind rushed through the trees with high pitched cries, she swore she heard it crying her name. Molly paused briefly as a gust began to entwine itself in her hair. Long red ringlets whirled and danced through the air, creating an auburn aura around her.

She could feel him there with her. She felt his warm breath brush the nape of her neck. Her emotions began to swell, leaving her breathless and lightheaded. Her eyes fluttered as she spun towards the ground and caught a glimpse of all that was really left of him – an inscribed marble slab.

Trust

Molly heard hesitation in his voice when she answered the phone. He said he was on the way – that his meeting ran late. She wanted to believe him. Jack had never given her a reason not to trust him. But lately, something didn’t seem right.

Jack finally arrived at 8:00, two hours past their reservation. So much for dinner she fumed and turned her back to him.

“Don’t be mad baby.”

Baby?!”

As she whipped around to give him a piece of her mind she lost her balance, tumbling into him and sending a little blue box tumbling across the floor.

Direction

The force within is in constant motion. Pulling and tugging in every direction, creating a continuous battle of wills.

I take a deep breath – not sure where the next thrust will take me. Suddenly I am propelled with such force that I loose all sense of direction. My body becomes consumed with movement.

As it tightens its grip around me I wonder if it will ever set me free. I lurch and am suddenly thrust to the surface in an act of mercy. The sun is bright, making it difficult to focus. But off in the distance, I see safety.

Confidence In Truth

I often search within myself to find what I know is true. Sometimes it can be the most difficult and challenging task. For often, there lurking in the shadows of my soul, is an evil monster. While he may be small in size, he is able to bring the strongest of men crashing to their knees with just a fleeting glance. He is powerful enough to make you walk away from your wants and dreams, without a second glimpse or thought. What is this monster you query? The demon within me is doubt, and to conquer him, I must BELIEVE.

Stolen

100 word challengeHis pulse quickened as he stepped out into the street. It was easy to get lost in the crowds of New York, but he worried the bundle he was carrying would make him easy to spot. He kept his head down as he headed towards Madison Avenue where her car would be waiting. Only a few more blocks he thought as he picked up his pace.

Suddenly a large man clipped his shoulder, causing him to stumble sideways. His worst fear came true. As he fell to his knees the blanket shifted, exposing the newborn babe that was wrapped within.
